Tom K. Sorley is the retired CEO of Rosendin Electric and currently serves as a director on several construction industry Boards including Rosendin and in his spare time writes and post articles on LinkedIn to help the next generation of construction professionals. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, where he was quarterback under Tom Osbourne, Tom has been in the construction industry for 44 years.
Named President in 1992, Tom led a team of professionals that have seen the company grow from a small footprint in California to become one of the largest Electrical Contractors in the Nation. With his background built around the strength of the ownership culture, Tom’s passion and engagement in the construction industry remains focused on helping companies that have an environment of empowerment that supports the growth of the individual as well as the company. It is this emphasis that brings the competency and capacity needed to support customers across such a wide diversity of industries, establishes a business model based on lasting relationships with their customers, and makes construction fun and attractive to the next generation.
Tom serves or has served on boards at the San Francisco Bay Area Council Boy Scouts of America, The Beavers (2011-2020). The National Academy of Construction (2012-present), The Lean Construction Institute (2012-2018), The Construction Industry Roundtable (2012-2015) and was the former Chairperson for the Design Build Institute of America (2008) as well as President of the National Academy of Construction (2019-2020) He also participated on the AGC National PIAC (Owner’s group) where he has presented ideas on modularity and prefabrication ideas. Tom also served on the advisory Board of ACE at Arizona State University. In 2011, Tom was inducted to the National Academy of Construction and received the San Francisco Bay Area Construction Industry Good Scout Award. In 2020 he was named to ENR’s List of Top 25 Newsmakers in the Construction Industry. He was also an active participant with NECA and has worked extensively with AGC on their initiatives and owner’s group to improve productivity and enhance the construction industry.
