Tanya W. Komas
Tanya Wattenburg Komas is President/CEO and Founder of the CPI Foundation, a non-profit educational foundation partnering with the US Departments of Defense and Interior. CPI trains active-duty military service members hands-on repairing landmark structures in national parks, most notably Alcatraz Island and the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, and as interns with construction industry companies nationwide. CPI’s military participants are prepared and connected for full-time employment throughout the industry upon civilian transition.
Tanya is Professor Emeritus at California State University, Chico, where her research included evaluation of the German bunkers at the WWII D-Day landing site at Normandy, France, and cement-based CO2 reduction research with NASA. Tanya holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from Texas A&M University, a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, and Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis. Tanya served on the Board of Directors for the International Concrete Repair Institute, was named 2012 Professor of the Year for California State University, Chico, by the Chico Economic Development Council, and was honored as one of “Five Most Influential People in the Concrete Industry” in 2013 by Concrete Construction Magazine.
