Thomas F. Prendergast
Thomas F. (Tom) Prendergast is executive vice president and chief strategic officer at STV. He joined the company in 2017. Tom is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA). He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle, where he received a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering with a specialization in urban transportation.
Tom is a career transportation professional with over 40 years of experience in both the public and private sectors as well as within the engineering and construction management sector. He began at NYMTA in 1982, and served as chairman from 2013-2017, his final year including the opening of the Second Avenue subway, one of the most notable achievements in New York City transportation history.
NYMTA, the largest public transportation network in the U.S., serves over 15 million people throughout a 5,000 square-mile service area. It has approximately 70,000 employees working in six operating agencies that provide 2.69 billion trips each year, which is the equivalent of about one-third of all users of mass transit and two-thirds of the nation’s rail riders. Its bridges and tunnels carry more than 280 million vehicles a year, which is more than any other bridge and tunnel agency in the nation.
Tom is married to Christine, and they have three children.
