Simaan AbouRizk
Simaan M. AbouRizk holds a Canada Research Chair and a National Science and Engineering Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, where he is a professor. He also led the establishment of the Construction Engineering and Management program at the University of Alberta. He holds degrees from Georgia Tech University and Purdue University.
Simaan is well known in academia for his research in computer simulation and its applications in construction planning, productivity improvement, constructability, and risk analysis. Two companies that he launched provide construction management consulting services and computer modeling.
He is the co-author of two textbooks and over 300 publications in the area of construction engineering and management. He has been active in both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE), among other professional organizations. He is the recipient of the ASCE Peurifoy Award (2008) and its E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship (2001), and the CSCE Walter Shanly Award (2001). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
Simaan is married to Marleine, and they have three daughters.
