Tom Sawyer
Tom Sawyer is a retired deputy editor at ENR. He studied journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He now works for ENR as a consultant.
While at ENR, he reported frequently on technology and traveled to numerous sites to report on how it is used on real world projects. He created the annual photo contest at ENR and led the magazine to take on trending tech projects such as e-newsletters, webinars, and its annual FutureTech conferences. He provided on-site coverage of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Tom reported on natural disasters from sites where they occurred, such as Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the earthquake in Haiti, and the tsunami and earthquake in Japan. He embedded twice with a U.S. Army engineer brigade to provide combat reporting on the war in Iraq.
Along with his many recognitions for his journalistic body of work, he is the recipient of the James B. Porter, Jr., Award for Technology Leadership from Fiatech, its highest honor. The U.S. Army Engineer Association awarded him the Bronze Order of the De Fleury Medal for significant contributions to the Engineer Regiment.
