Bowen

Robert L. (Bob) Bowen is founder and chairman of Bowen Engineering Corporation, which specializes in water/wastewater treatment plants and energy utility construction. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. In 2007, he was recognized by his alma mater with an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree. His 54-year-old firm is based in Indianapolis with five offices from Kansas City to Annapolis, MD. He was inducted into the Indianapolis Public School Education Foundation Hall of Fame in 2009. Bowen Engineering has been awarded eleven Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Build America Awards.

Bob himself is active in AGC of America, serving on the executive committee, chairing the municipal/utilities division, and being a driving force behind the AGC Education and Research Foundation faculty internship professional development initiative. For the past twelve years, he has taught at Purdue and most recently has been teaching a class on Leadership and Advanced Project Management. He wrote a book titled, "It Takes More Than Concrete."

He is a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and in 2012 was selected to receive an ASCE OPAL Award for outstanding lifetime achievement. His son Doug, who is Bowen Engineering's president and CEO, runs his firm. Bob plans for Doug's son to someday take over the business as well.

Bob and his wife Terry, have 4 children and eleven grandchildren.
