Raymond E. Levitt
Raymond E. (Ray) Levitt holds the Kumagai Professor of Engineering and directs the Global Projects Center at Stanford University. He joined Stanford in 1980 after five years with MIT. Ray helped found the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), a world class organization focused on developing tools and organization structures for integrated work processes and project delivery.
In 2002, he founded Stanford’s Global Projects Center, a collaborative and cross-disciplinary center conducting research, education, and outreach to enhance the financing, governance, and sustainability of civil and social infrastructure projects worldwide. He also is the academic director of the Stanford Advance Project Management Program, an executive education program that provides professionals with advanced tools and techniques to strategically execute projects, programs, and portfolios.
His work in management of large, complex organizations has greatly impacted and improved operations and administration within the construction industry. He has been recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) with numerous awards, including the Huber Award and the Peurifoy Award, and was elected a Distinguished Member of ASCE.
Since July 2017, Ray has been half-time at Stanford, and is an Operating Partner in Blackhorn Ventures, a seed-stage VC fund investing in startups that exploit emerging technologies in sensing, IOT, communication, AI and smart mobile devices to enable enhanced productivity in the real economy -- with a special focus on construction and real estate.
He is married to Kathleen Adele Sullivan Levitt. They have three children and two grandchildren.
