T. Peter Ruane
Peter Ruane is the retired president and CEO of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). He is a graduate of Loyola University of Baltimore, holds a master’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University, and earned a PhD from George Washington University. He has over 40 years of diversified experience in the economic development, transportation, construction, and national defense fields.
He is a decorated Vietnam veteran, having served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Peter served for nine years as president/CEO of the National Moving and Storage Association, an international trade association with members in over 50 countries. He also was the deputy director of the Office of Economic Adjustment, Office of the Secretary of Defense, where he worked on complex economic development projects resulting from base closures in the 1970s and 1980s. He is the first association executive to have been awarded the American Public Works Association Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his personal leadership in the passage of the largest public works legislation in U.S. history.
He was a member of the graduate school faculty at George Washington University for four years, and has lectured at several other universities.
