Paul C. Ajegba
Paul Ajegba is the retired director of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Prairie View A&M University and a master's in construction engineering from the University of Michigan. As MDOT director, he leads efforts in a $3.5B program, Rebuilding Michigan. He has guided the department’s focus on diversity and inclusion efforts, establishing the barrier-shattering deputy director-chief culture, equity, and inclusion officer position. He established MDOT’s Historical Black Colleges and Universities Transportation Diversity Recruitment Program, with approximately 300 students participating to date since 2013. His more than 31-year career with the department includes serving as metro region engineer, university region engineer, and manager, Oakland Transportation Service Center.
Paul is a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit, the Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and chairs the board of the UM Civil and Environmental Engineering Friends Association. In 2017, he was recognized as the Public Agency Executive of the Year by the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Michigan.
