Patrick MacLeamy
Patrick MacLeamy is the former CEO and chairman of HOK, a global design firm specializing in a diverse array of large, complex projects. He holds a bachelor’s of architecture and a master’s in urban design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He joined HOK in 1967 as a designer in the firm’s founding office in St. Louis. He relocated to San Francisco in 1970 to help establish HOK’s first regional office. During his 50-year career with HOK, he led transformation of the firm’s work from 2D CAD to Building Information Modeling (BIM) using advanced collaboration tools. His leadership led to recognition of HOK as one of the most technologically advanced design firms in the world. Patrick advocates changing the fragmented nature of the industry into an integrated, highly collaborative system that emulates manufacturing.
He supports this vision as a founder and chairman of buildingSMART International, an organization with chapters in 18 countries dedicated to developing global digital standards for data exchange in the building and infrastructure industries. Later this year, he will publish his first book, Designing a World-Class Architecture Firm: The People, Stories and Strategies behind HOK.
