Miroslaw J. Skibniewski
Mirosław (“Mirek”) Skibniewski is a Professor of Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Maryland. He earned his M.Eng. degree from Warsaw University of Technology and MS and PhD degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University. He specializes in automation and IT for economically and environmentally sustainable construction applications. He teaches courses in construction automation and robotics, selection and utilization of construction equipment, and in legal aspects of architecture, engineering and construction. He was previously a tenured professor at Purdue University, where he also served as associate provost and interim dean. Since 1994, he has been serving as editor-in-chief of Automation in Construction, an international research journal published by Elsevier, and is the author/co-author of over 400 technical publications. He held multiple distinguished visiting professorships throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia. Among his past honors are the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, the ASCE Walter L. Huber Research Prize, and the Richard L. Tucker-Yukio Hasegawa Research Award from the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction. In 2006 he was elected as Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, in 2008 as Full Member of the Academy of Engineering in Poland, and in 2016 as Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering.
