Makarand Hastak
Makarand (Mark) Hastak is professor and the Dernlan Family Head of Construction Engineering and Management as well as professor of civil engineering at Purdue University. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nagpur University (India), a master’s from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD from Purdue.
Recognized around the world as an expert in construction engineering and management, he has expertise in profitability of construction companies, disaster risk reduction, infrastructure management, project control, and risk management. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, a Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS), and a Certified Cost Professional (CCP).
Mark is the current president of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction, the international body known as CIB. He also serves as the academic advisor to the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Downstream and Chemicals Committee.
He has authored/co-authored over 235 publications and reports as well as co-authored and edited three widely used books. He is a past editor-in-chief of the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering. He is also a founding member and past chair of the Global Leadership Forum for Construction Engineering and Management Programs.
