Lisa Washington
Lisa Washington is the executive director/CEO of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Strayer University and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from the University of Maryland. Under her leadership, legislative authority of design-build grew from 22 to 48 states, the number of DBIA-certified professionals increased from 86 to nearly 7,000, and DBIA developed its highly regarded design-build curriculum, from procurement to post-award execution. In 2014, the curriculum expanded with the release of DBIA’s first universally applicable design-build best practices. These practices are now widely accepted as the industry standard and are nationally recognized as the only source for Design-Build Done Right® education. DBIA released highly anticipated updates to the resource in 2023.
Lisa previously served in executive positions with the Independent Electrical Contractors and the National Society of Accountants. In 2012, ENR named her a Top 25 Newsmaker. She has been frequently interviewed by national and trade publications, including The New York Times, Construction in Focus, and ENR, for her perspectives about the engineering, design, and construction industry and design-build.
