Jerald L. Schnoor
Jerald Schnoor holds the Allen S. Henry Chair in Engineering and is a professor and co-director of the Center for Global & Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University and a master’s in environmental health engineering and a PhD in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1999. He has been a consultant on projects worldwide. His research into the use of plants to clean and protect the environment, phytotechnology, is pioneering and has been adopted widely throughout the world at contaminated sites. The American Chemical Society has recognized him as a “global leader in solving complex environmental problems that have significant positive impact in the world.” He served as editor-in-chief of the Environmental Science & Technology from 2002- 2014, and as the founding editor-in-chief of ES&T Letters from 2012-2014. He has been honored with numerous awards from ASCE, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the National Water Research Institute, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
