Janaka Ruwanpura
Janaka Ruwanpura is vice-provost and associate vice-president, research (international) at the University of Calgary (UCalgary). He holds degrees from the University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka), Arizona State University, and the University of Alberta. Before his current position, he was a professor and Canada Research Chair of project management systems and director of UCalgary’s Centre for Project Management Excellence. Janaka’s leadership has brought transformative growth and excellence awards in internationalization for UCalgary. He has developed many best practices and tools that have been successfully implemented in the construction industry for productivity improvement, construction project management, construction automation, and project planning. He has been honored many times, including receiving the Walter Shanly Career Award for Construction Engineering from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and Distinguished Alumni Award of the School of Sustainable Engineering and Built Environment at Arizona State. He also is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sri Lanka Foundation, Los Angeles. He is a Professional Engineer and a Professional Quantity Surveyor and a Fellow of the CSCE.
