Joseph J. Hunt
Joseph J. (Joe) Hunt served as general president of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers from 2001 until his retirement in 2011. He was involved in the ironworker industry for 48 years, and served in many capacities on both the local and national levels. He remains an active advisor to labor groups in Washington, D.C. He was instrumental in launching the IMPACT (Ironworker-Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust) program to improve relationships with contractors, management, and customers.
The program focuses on safety, substance abuse policy, alternate dispute resolution for contractors and labor, and the idea for labor to work as business partners with contractors to create increased business. Under his leadership, the union took the lead in training workers, contractors, and OSHA inspectors on a new federal steel erection standard to improve overall awareness of the standard. He also has encouraged the development of a training program for workers as a competitive edge. He served as an executive board member of the St. Louis Ambassadors and as a commissioner of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
Joe and his wife, Jan, have been married more than 50 years and have four children and 11 grandchildren.
