John A. Gambatese
John Gambatese is a professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. He earned bachelor and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in civil engineering from the University of Washington. He started his current position at Oregon State University in 2000 after three years on the faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
John’s research and contributions to the industry are in the broad area of construction engineering and management as they relate to safety, prevention through design, work zone safety, risk and reward, innovation, and sustainable and lean practices. Based on his research and service to the industry, he has contributed to improving safety in many ways, including the understanding of how to improve safety through the design. He has been honored as an ENR Top 25 Newsmaker in 2022 and recognized multiple times as an outstanding professor at OSU. He is an ASCE Fellow and a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in California.
