James E. Koch
Jim Koch is chief operating officer for Michael Baker International in Alexandria, VA. He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Washington & Lee University, a master’s in civil engineering and the degree of engineer in construction engineering from Stanford University, and a PhD in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla. An Army Lt. Col (Ret.), Jim served his country with distinction from 1977-98. His last Army assignment was the director, Department of Tactics, Leadership, & Engineering at the Army’s Engineer School. He has made significant contributions to the industry over the last 40 years in both the public and private sectors and in academia as well. He served as director of the Lemay Center for Composites Technology at UM-Rolla then later as the director of the graduate program in construction management at Washington University in St. Louis. He has worked in over 20 countries on various construction and design projects and now sits on the Board of Directors for the National Institute for Building Sciences. He is also the co-author of two books published by ASCE on design-build contracting.
