J. Kent Underwood
I first met Kent when he was with Monsanto and contacted us to work on a union project near St. Louis. We then worked on a large project at Comanche Park near Galveston, a Monsanto/Union Carbide project. Kent worked with us on several other projects at Pensacola and other locations. We also served together on the IPA Board for several years, including a meeting in Australia. We played several rounds of golf together and had dinner with Kent and Irene several times. Kent was a pioneer in project improvement, with Monsanto and later. He died too young.

Kent was leading the Monsanto Chemical projects organization when I got to know him in 1992. What struck me was not only that this was a wonderful guy, but here was an engineer that was really passionate about doing construction well. Over the years Loretta and I got to know both Kent and his lovely wife, Irene, well. Irene was one of the bravest people we ever met and Kent was the perfect match for her. In our industry, we are lucky to meet a good many fine people, but there are a few who stand out from the crowd. Kent Underwood was one of those.
