Jim D. Wiethorn
Jim Wiethorn is an engineering specialist with International Crane & Construction Safety Solutions in Houston, TX. He holds a bachelor’s degree in math and physics from Baylor University, bachelor’s and master’s degree in architecture from UT Austin, and a PhD in civil, architectural, and environmental engineering from UT Austin. Jim is a forensic engineer and third-generation general contractor in the family business. He has analyzed over 1,200 crane accidents and is the author of Crane Accidents: A Study of Causes & Trends to Create a Safer Work Environment, 1983-2013.
He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society for Testing Materials, and the American Institute of Steel Construction. He has been honored by the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin as a Distinguished Alumni. A licensed Professional Engineer in 34 states, Jim has testified in over 130 trials and has made 320 depositions.
He holds four patents associated with crane safety operations and telematics.
