James Broaddus
James A. (Jim) Broaddus founded and is president of Broaddus and Associates, based in Austin, TX. He holds bachelor’s, master’s, and a PhD in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
Jim served with distinction in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. Among his many duty stations, he served as Commanding Officer of the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, MD, for President Ronald Reagan. After his military service, he joined the Construction Industry Institute (CII) as an associate director. In 1994, he joined the University of Texas System and was responsible for the capital construction program at the 15 UT statewide campuses. In 1998, he became the first full-time CEO of the Design-Build Institute of America before founding his own firm two years later.
He has been a Presidential appointee to and chairman of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), is a distinguished civil engineering graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, was named Travis County Engineer of the Year, and is Champion of Youth for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin area.
Jim is married to Kay, and they live in Austin, TX. Their two sons work for the firm. Jim and Kay have six grandchildren.
