Henry J. Hatch
Henry J. (Hank) Hatch is a visionary leader who dramatically influenced the Corps of Engineers and transformed the Army’s approach to engineering and construction. He served as Engineer for the Army in Europe, commander of the Corps’ Pacific Ocean Division, commander of the 2nd Infantry Division Support Command in Korea, commander of the 326th Engineer Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, and other notable positions.
In 1992, he completed a distinguished 35-year career as the U.S. Army Chief of Engineers and the commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After retiring from the military, Hank served as chairman of Law Companies Group, as president and CEO of Fluor Daniel Hanford, and as COO of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) until his retirement in 2000. Today, he is active in the National Research Council and ASCE.
Among his many honors are the Distinguished Graduate Award from the United States Military Academy at West Point and the Distinguished Alumni Award from The Ohio State University. Hank is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Hank and Shelley live in Oakton, VA. They have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
