Harold D. Pritchett
Harold D. (Hal) Pritchett is professor emeritus in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon State, a master’s degree in hydraulic engineering from Oregon State, and a degree in engineering in economic planning from Stanford University, where he studied under the legendary Clark Oglesby.
The son of a heavy equipment operator, Hal worked for the U.S Bureau of Public Roads as a young man before serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two years. He served on the faculty at Oregon State for 45 years before retiring in 2004. He is one of the founders of the Oregon State University Construction Engineering Management Program. He is widely known for incorporating classroom and lab instruction in engineering and business.
Oregon State recognized him with its Carter Award for Excellence in Teaching. He also was recognized by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Oregon-Columbia Chapter with its Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility Award. In 2003, The Beavers recognized Hal with its Golden Beaver Award.
He and Ann, who split their time between the Oregon Coast and Corvallis, have two daughters and three sons, 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
