David Goodyear is a consulting structural engineer. He graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in structural engineering. He has over 45 years of experience in bridge and heavy foundation design and construction engineering for long span bridges.
David was chief bridge engineer for the North American Operations for T.Y. Lin International, leading the firm’s offices for major bridge, cable-stayed, and concrete segmental design work and construction engineering. He is the engineer of record for the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge at Hoover Dam. He also designed the composite bridge structure alternative for the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. He is a charter member and past chairman of the Post Tensioning Institute’s Committee on Cable Stayed Bridges.
David is focused on integrating bridge design and construction, often teaming with general contractors in long span cable-stayed bridge work. This experience led to his authoring erection requirements for cable-stayed bridges in the Post-Tensioning Institute recommendations. David is a past chairman for technical arbitration of bridge construction claims and served on several dispute review boards for major bridge contracts. He is a recipient of the Golden Beaver Award and member of the National Academy of Engineering.
