Emmitt J. Nelson
Emmitt J. Nelson is President of Nelson Consulting, Inc. and founder of the Zero Injury Institute. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.
He had a remarkable 37-year career with Shell Oil Company, retiring in 1989 to do consulting work. Emmitt chaired the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Zero Injury Task Force from 1990 to 1993. During that time, the task force developed the information base necessary for demonstrating the benefits of injury control in the construction industry.
Through his consulting firm, he has successfully taken the zero-injury message to dozens of companies throughout the United States. The concepts and success of his leadership have brought about a significant change in attitudes among executives, management, foremen, and craft laborers. Successes are documented in both union and merit shop firms.
Emmitt is the recipient of The Business Roundtable Construction Safety Excellence Award and the ECC Lifetime Achievement Award, among his many honors.
He and his wife, Ginny, live in Houston, TX.
