Robert D. (Don) Vardeman
Don Vardeman is the retired vice president of worldwide project management for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (magna cum laude) from Texas A&M University.
He is well known for his commitment to collaboration, trust, and mutual respect. This unusual approach to project management consistently led to successful projects over a 40-year career. His spar technology involving floating offshore platforms, for example, was successful because Don simply trusted his contractors for their professionalism, expertise, and desire for project success. In addition, he had the platforms fabricated in Finland, thus elevating that country’s reputation as a global competitor. He was awarded the Insignia of the Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland by the president of Finland for his efforts.
Other honors include the Industry Leadership Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Engineering & Construction Contracting Lifetime Achievement Award. He chaired the Offshore Technology Conference and recently received its Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals. He is a member of the Offshore Energy Center’s Pioneer Hall of Fame.
