Douglas G. Morton
Doug Morton is associate vice chancellor for facilities at North Carolina State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering - construction from NC State, a master’s in civil engineering from Georgia Tech, and a master’s in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He previously served more than three decades with the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps responsible for all facets of project delivery. He commanded Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 (Seabees), deploying worldwide during the global war on terrorism, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast, providing military construction support for 23 bases, and NAVFAC Atlantic, where he oversaw all Navy-Marine Corps construction activities in the continental United States, Europe and Africa.
He was awarded the Moreell Medal by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) for the most outstanding achievement to military engineering in construction and administration for his leadership of Seabees deployed to Croatia and Bosnia in support of the Army and NATO peacekeeping operations. Currently at NC State, he leads all planning, design, construction and maintenance and has a more than $1.3 B construction program for North Carolina’s flagship STEM institution. He retired from active naval service in 2016 with the rank of Rear Admiral. Doug is a registered Professional Engineer in Georgia and a fellow of SAME.
