Daniel W. Halpin
Daniel W. (Dan) Halpin is emeritus professor of civil engineering at Purdue University. He is generally recognized as one of the leading authorities in the world on the use of simulation in studying construction processes. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois.
He was head of the Division of Construction Engineering and Management and a professor at Purdue University beginning in 1987. He previously taught at the University of Maryland and Georgia Tech. He also was named as visiting professor of civil engineering at the University of Sydney, Australia, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
He received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Walter Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize and the Peurifoy Research Prize. Among his other honors are the Bronze Star Medal for Service, Republic of Vietnam, and the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Carroll H. Dunn Award of Excellence.
