Chris T. Hendrickson
Chris T. Hendrickson is the Hamerschlag University Professor, director of the Traffic 21 Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, and editor-in-chief of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Transportation Engineering. He holds a master of philosophy degree in economics from Oxford University, master’s and doctoral degrees from Stanford University, and a PhD from MIT. His research includes computer-aided engineering, transportation systems, and project management and environmental systems. He strikes a balance in his systems-wide perspective between engineering and management considerations. He developed a travel distance formula as part of his doctoral work in 1978 for random stops that is still in use today for home service planning.
He has co-authored five books and numerous articles in professional literature. For the past 20 years, he has focused on green design and the environmental life-cycle consequences of alternative product and process designs. Chris is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Distinguished Member of ASCE, and an emeritus member of the Transportation Research Board.
Chris and Kathy met at Oxford and have been married since 1977. They have three children and enjoy traveling, hiking and Ultimate Frisbee.
