Carl T. Haas
Carl T. Haas is a University Research Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He previously served on the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin. He has made outstanding long-term contributions to the practice and science of construction technology, productivity, and workforce improvement through research and professional leadership. Much of his research, both basic and applied, centers around human-robotic systems, infrastructure computer vision, workforce safety and productivity, project management, and circular economy in the built environment. He is influential in the mentoring of students and thus the future of the engineering and construction industry. Of the 52 PhDs he has supervised, about half are now faculty members at notable institutions internationally. He has published over 200 refereed journal articles and been honored numerous times with awards for his teaching, his scholarship, and his research. His contributions, both in research and in the classroom, have set new standards within the academic community. He is married to Jennifer, and they have two children, Cameron and Greta.
