Awad S. Hanna
Awad Hanna holds the Boldt professorship for construction engineering and management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and chairs the university’s Construction Engineering Management Program (CEMP). He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Cairo University and master’s and PhD degrees in construction engineering and management from Penn State.
He previously taught at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada. In addition to his professor’s and CEMP chairman’s roles at UW-Madison, Awad is the director of the university’s Construction and Materials Support Center. He is known for his prolific research efforts into construction productivity and methods and equitable risk allocation. He also is a pioneer in benchmarking productivity indicators.
Among his many honors, Awad is the recipient of the Thomas Fitch Rowland Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He also has received ASCE’s Construction Management Award and is a Fellow in ASCE. The Construction Industry Institute recognized him as its Outstanding Researcher in 2006. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and in Canada. He is the author of two textbooks on productivity.
