Arthur W. Fort
Arthur W. (Art) Fort received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Auburn University and a master’s in construction management from Stanford University. He served in the Naval Facilities Engineering Command of the U.S. Navy from 1958-1988, retiring as rear admiral and commander of the Pacific Division. He served as Assistant U.S. Secretary of State from 1989-1993 and received recognition from the Secretary of State for his modernization of the U.S. Embassy program. He then served as senior vice president of Holmes and Narver from 1993-1998.
Art has been active professionally in the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the Construction Industry Institute (CII), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), where he chaired the military facilities committee of the Architectural Engineering Division. He has served as president of the Seabees Historical Foundation. He was cited by ENR in 1992 for his accomplishments in the U.S. Embassy construction program. He is active in the men’s golf association at his home in Williamsburg, VA, and served four years on the board of directors of his community’s homeowners association.
Art and his wife, Noel, have 15 grandchildren in Sarasota, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Virginia Beach.
