Richard L. Tucker Outstanding Service Award

The Richard L. Tucker Outstanding Service Award recognizes an individual whose support of NAC over a sustained period of time, in support of NAC programs and staff, through financial or other support has enabled NAC to grow and prosper. Established in 2020, the Award is named in honor of founding member, Richard L. Tucker, who personally led the effort to establish the National Academy of Construction in 1999 and served as its General Secretary from 1999-2015. The Academy is here today because of his leadership, and passion for construction and education.

The President of NAC with advice from the General Secretary will choose contributors who have helped and supported NAC over their course of involvement with NAC. The award will be presented annually.

Lillian Borrone

Borrone, elected to the Academy in 2016 for excellence in management, policy formation, planning, and intergovernmental and community relations, is past chair of the Awards Committee and a past member of the Executive Committee. She currently serves on the Development Committee. Borrone has been active in nominating new members and serving as a reference for nominees as well. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and serves as a liaison for NAC to the NAE. She has served on the boards of several public and private companies and is a member of the National Academy of Public Administration and the Maritime Association Hall of Fame.

James B. Porter, Jr.

Jim was elected to the Academy in 2003. His contributions and active support of the Academy have been continuous over a 20-year span. NAC’s Construction Forum, a national gathering of industry stakeholders to discuss long-term solutions to workforce and other industry topics, saw Jim serve as co-chair from 2009-2017. He was elected as the Academy chair and led NAC and its Executive Committee in 2010. The Academy recognized him with NAC’s highest honor, the Ted C. Kennedy Award and Medal, in 2014. For the past seven years, he has chaired the Strategic Planning Committee. He also co-chaired an NAC-IEEE safety workshop along with his wife, NAC member Deb Grubbe, in 2017. A major financial contribution from the couple was their pledged endowment as they became the first members of the NAC Builders Legacy Society, a gift to the Academy’s sustainability and long-term growth.

Jerry Eyink

Jerry was elected to the Academy in 2011, currently leads the NAC Executive Insights efforts, both written and podcast editions. NAC’S Ask Me Anything webinars use the Insights as topic areas as well. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. His NAC service includes two stints on the Membership Committee (2013-15 and 2018-2020) as well as service on the Marketing and Communications Committee (2019-2021). His membership on the Executive Insights Committee began in 2017. He has chaired that group since 2019. There are now over 140 Executive Insights published and 23 podcasts have been recorded.

Dominick M. Servedio

Dominick was elected to the Academy in 2008 and led NAC as president in 2015-2016. He also is past chair of the Membership Committee and served as a core member of NAC’s strategic planning process. He skillfully guided the Academy during a period of expansion of membership and outreach. A focus on safety intensified during that period as well, with 50 safety white papers now published by NAC. The idea of corporate sponsorships also came to fruition, which has added financial stability to the Academy in the conduct of the annual meetings as well as increasing NAC’s reach into collaborative efforts with other industry organizations.

G. Edward Gibson Jr.

Edd was inducted in 2005 for “significant contributions in pre-project planning, risk assessment, and dispute avoidance and resolution, and research and continuing education.” Since then, he has served as the co-chair and principal author of the NAC National Construction Forum, which eventually resulted in the Academy’s Executive Insight essays. He helped organize the NAC summit at ASU with the National Association of Public Administrators. For the past two years he and his wife, Gail, have led the Academy’s auction fundraising activity. Gibson currently participates as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and chairs the Academy’s first Scholarship Committee that recently granted three awards to college students studying for a future in the engineering and construction industry. He also serves on the Development and Finance and Annual Meeting committees.
